Doodle God, launched in 2010 by JoyBits, gave a puzzle-game spin to the world-building genre. Doodle God grew into a series that included titles such as Doodle Devil, Doodle Mafia and Doodle Farm. On Friday, Doodle God Universe joined Apple Arcade's extensive slate of games.

Doodle God Universe lets you combine different elements starting with air, earth and fire. You can then construct new elements and items by solving puzzles to build your own universe, and also help support the creatures that live there.

While Doodle God Universe will feel familiar to those who've played the games before, Paul, a brand ambassador for JoyBits who prefers to use his initials, says in many ways it's an entirely new game. Doodle God Universe is a game that features modern icons of elements that have been redrawn 3D scenes, and more reactions and changes to the game's speed and difficulty.

Paul shared his thoughts Paul shared his thoughts with CNET via email. The game adapts to the logic and style of every player.

The Doodle God series is an A+B=C style game, according to Paul. Similar mechanics are used in games such as Triple Town, 2048, and Little Alchemy. These games combine elements from previous games to create new ones. For instance, the game's official trailer shows that the combination of fire and bird produces an phoenix. Doodle God's unique content, quests, puzzles mini-games and art stand it apart from variations and duplicates, Paul says.

The game also benefits by Apple's latest hardware, like 5G and the A14 Bionic chip.

"The power of the modern Apple devices include iPhone, iPad, Mac, AppleTV -- as along with a variety of amazing technologies, such as Metal and integrated with Unity3D -- all this allowed us to implement all the most innovative game design and visual concepts," Paul said.

Getting creative and chaotic World-building games like Minecraft, Stardew Valley, Terraria and The Sims have supplied gamers with endless hours of entertainment for years. Paul says that Doodle God Universe, like every other game that builds worlds, is about exploration and finding the unexpected.

"World building games can be fascinating for an awfully long period of time, and a lot of players would like to 're-read' Doodle God over and over time like a good book," Paul said. "And in the event of the complete lockdown in which the person is spending most of the time at home -what could be better than re-reading your favorite book, re-watching [your] favorite TV show or re-creating your own world in Doodle God Universe?"

To have the most fun playing the game, players picking up Doodle God Universe should be open to experimentation, Paul says. Doodle God Universe rewards curiosity.

"Use your imagination, let creativity be your engine," Paul said. "And there isn't a specific pattern when playing the game You can use your logic or combine elements in a chaotic manner."
