Rogue (Anna Paquin) is really just a normal teenager. But when it touches other people, it absorbs their forces and puts their lives in danger. She is a mutant. As you do many. Everyone has a special gift. Some like the group around leader Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) use the forces for the good of mankind, others want to exterminate them like underworld boss Magneto (Ian McKellen). The Earthlings hate all mutants anyway. Senator Kelly (Bruce Davidson) in particular drives a pursuit of the mutants - until he is kidnapped by them.

The $ 75 million production appeals due to the fact that it is particularly faithful to the Marvel comics "X-Men", first published in 1963. Director Singer ("The Usual Suspects") makes a lot of effort - by comic standards - to introduce the ten superhero characters. Technically and optically, “X-Men” is certainly not a revolution like the comparable science fiction thriller “Matrix”, but the adaptation knows how to please. FMovies supposed dilemma turned out to be a stroke of luck for the production: After the first scenes were shot, the originally planned lead actor Dougray Scott had to cancel because the shooting of "Mission: Impossible II" was still dragging on. The short-term replacement, Australian theatrical mime Hugh Jackman, turns out to be the discovery of film. The charismatic newcomer, who is reminiscent of the young Clint Eastwood, shines with dry, laconic sayings and the necessary toughness. He's definitely the secret star of "X-Men".
